Model line-up
Perodua’s Myvi line-up includes two models based upon a single, compact 5-door body shell. The Myvi Sxi manual provides a high level of sophistication, equipment, comfort and safety. This is shared by the Ezi model which also has the additional specification of a four speed, fully automatic transmission with switchable overdrive and a digital gear selection indicator in the instrument binnacle. Externally both models have colour-matched bumpers, external door handles and mirrors, which include an integral indicator, plus a choice of metallic and high gloss paint finishes. The latest additions to the line-up are the Myvi Sport and the Myvi SE. The Myvi Sport is available for just £7,999* and has a body enhancement consisting of side skirts, front and rear skirts with dummy quad exhausts, alloy wheels, chrome door handles, colour-matched side mouldings with chrome 'Myvi' inserts and carbon fibre interior features. The Myvi Sport is available in manual transmission in a choice of ebony black or ivory white. The Myvi SE is available from £8,599* and has a luxury dark grey leather interior with matching leather door inserts along with alloy wheels. The Myvi SE is available in manual or automatic transmission in a choice of colours.
Safety
Occupant safety is a major consideration in the design of all Perodua vehicles and the Myvi is no exception, featuring a newly developed body structure that absorbs impact more effectively from the front, rear and sides to protect occupants. The body shell also features the latest head impact protection technology within its structure. Additional safety is provided by standard fitment of driver and passenger airbags, side impact protection beams built in to the vehicle structure and seatbelt pretensioners to reduce whiplash injury. The Myvi also benefits from the latest electronic ABS/EBD system; ensuring even emergency braking is fully controlled.
Practicality
With an overall length and width of 3720mm and 1665mm respectively, the Myvi is extremely manoeuvrable for city driving, yet spacious enough to feel swift and secure on motorways. With a turning circle of just 4.7 metres, the Myvi nips into tight parking spaces with ease. The Myvi’s high roofline of 1550mm provides outstanding visibility and headroom, whilst the tardis-like interior gives a feeling of space, allowing five people and their luggage to travel in comfort. The incredibly spacious interior provides load volumes which range from 225 litres VDA with the rear seats in place to 630 litres VDA with the bench folded.
Latest generation 1.3 DOHC DVVT power unit
A latest generation 1298cc double overhead camshaft engine, with four valves per cylinder and variable valve timing, powers Myvi through a five-speed manual gearbox on the Sxi or a four-speed automatic on the Ezi. Like previous Perodua power units the latest Japanese derived K3-VE, 4 cylinder unit provides lively performance with the manual version reaching 62 Mph in only 11.3 seconds, along with a top speed of 106 Mph, making the Myvi fun to drive. The 1.3 power unit features the very latest technology which results in a power output of 64 Kw at 6000 rpm and a torque figure of 116 Nm at 3200 rpm. Myvi’s engine is also kind to the environment with emissions of only 137 g/km on the Sxi and 151 g/km on the Ezi automatic. The power unit is also extremely efficient, with an outstanding fuel consumption of 58.8mpg¹ for the manual version over the Extra Urban cycle.
At the wheel
Driving the Myvi is effortless due to its light and smooth controls, combined with a clear and concise display. The steering column is fully adjustable for tilt and, in conjunction with the adjustable driver’s seat and the above average headroom, provides a comfortable and safe environment for even the longest of journeys. Information is provided through a three dial dash board featuring speedometer in Mph & Kph, tachometer and centrally mounted temperature gauge. Other information, including fuel level, is provided by a digital information unit located between the two major dials. The dashboard appears to be a plain black panel but comes to life with orange illumination on starting the engine. To the left of this panel is a centrally mounted console with an integral RDS radio/CD player featuring a soft lit orange display. Also in this unit are the three rotary controls for the heating and ventilation system, with the push buttons for hazard lights, heated rear screen and the all-important air conditioning located conveniently above these. The panel is finished in brushed silver which contrasts attractively with the charcoal grey fascia. The lights and wash/wipe functions are controlled with column stalks positioned either side of the sports-style steering wheel. A drop down glove box, door pockets and front cup holders provide useful stowage space.
The rear seats can either accommodate three adults in comfort or, through the 60:40 split/fold-flat system, combine bulky luggage and passengers with ease. The unique 60:40 split/fold-flat system operates by the base moving forward and down, thus allowing the rear seat backrest to lie flat on top to create a completely flat floor. Rear seat passengers have the option of two reclining positions for their seat backrest along with individual electric window controls, convenient magazine pockets in the rear of the front seats and two bottle/cup holders. All five seats are upholstered in an attractive high quality fabric, which is once again echoed on the door panels, and benefit from a secure 3-point seatbelt for each occupant.
Chassis and handling
Ride and handling are controlled by MacPherson front struts and a rear torsion beam with coil spring. This system provides sure-footed handling with a smooth and comfortable ride. The suspension is also designed to provide minimum intrusion and maximum interior load space. The power-assisted rack and pinion steering boasts a tight steering lock and a minimum turning circle of just 4.7 metres. Braking performance is provided by a servo-assisted, ventilated front disc/rear drum system backed up by the reassurance of an electronic ABS/EBD system, ensuring that even emergency braking procedures are carried out in a controlled and safe manner.
Low running costs
Perodua has established excellent credentials where running costs are concerned and believes Myvi will be no exception, with low servicing costs and excellent fuel consumption of 58.8 Mpg¹ on the Sxi manual version. Myvi will carry a full warranty package which includes comprehensive cover for three years/60,000 miles, two year’s free roadside recovery membership and a six year anti-perforation guarantee. A competitive purchase price coupled to 10,000 miles service intervals, a low level of VED and outstanding fuel economy make it a serious contender for long term value.
Conclusion
Myvi is the perfect supermini for today’s evolving motoring needs. It is extremely economical, highly specified, versatile, easy to drive and packed with the latest technology and safety innovations.
